Specifications Writer | Birmingham
We are looking for an experienced individual to fill the firm’s full-time Architectural Specifications Writer position in our Birmingham office. KPS Group works on a wide variety of project types across the public and private sectors, and is one of the largest design firms in Alabama. This opportunity requires the candidate to have significant project experience and knowledge in producing project specifications that support the firm’s design approach and culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Produces Project Manuals complying with CSI principles for all three KPS offices.
- Serves as a technical resource for product and material evaluations and selections.
- Maintains proficiency in construction products, techniques and sequences by staying abreast of product developments, new materials, code changes, and current industry trends.
- Performs periodic field observations to ensure quality control and compliance with the Contract Documents.
- Maintains and updates office master specifications.
- Coordinates production of specifications with engineering consultants to ensure compliance with specification formatting requirements.
- Assists project teams in resolving problems related to the use and installation of building materials and products that arise during design and construction.
- Assists with quality control and quality assurance processes.
- Assists Architects and Interior Designers with submittals, substitution reviews, and preparation of addenda
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture from an accredited architecture program required.
- 10+ years of experience at an architectural firm or A/E firm, 5+ years experience dedicated to specifications development.
- Demonstrated understanding of building codes, building systems, and construction material standards.
- Experience in institutional, healthcare, or academic building types.
- Proficiency with Avitro MasterSpec writing software or other specification software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to produce a well-coordinated, detail-oriented, fully integrated Project Manual.
- Knowledge of CSI formats and principles, Division 00 documents, and Division 01 specifications.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and produce results within deadline.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong knowledge of building envelope components and material requirements of all building and facility types.

Project Manager | Huntsville
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager / Architect to join our Huntsville Studio. KPS Group works on a wide variety of project types across the public and private sectors, and is one of the largest design firms in Alabama. We value team members with strong verbal and graphic communication skills, the enthusiasm and ideas to contribute to an exciting design dialogue, and the determination to continue to question and improve on designs. Our collaborative environment relies on individuals who work well with a team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and review production drawings and specifications.
- Organize, schedule, and manage multiple projects in various phases of design and construction.
- Take a leadership and/or support role on projects, managing in-house production and consultant teams from concepts through construction administration, and assuring the integrity of design intent through project completion while ensuring that all members are working effectively and maintaining project schedules.
- Provide direction to sub-consultants and monitor their performance.
- Coordinate all aspects of project documentation and technical information within the project team and externally with clients, vendors, and other design professionals.
- Interact with clients during meetings and design presentations
- Be responsible for the accuracy and quality of all technical work on the project.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-10 years of experience as a Project Architect / Project Manager who has managed all phases of a project from design through construction.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture from an accredited architecture program required. Architectural licensure strongly preferred.
- Minimum 10-15 years of experience at an architectural firm, designing and producing construction documents for medium- to large-scale, fast-paced projects, from conception through completion.
- Experience using Revit software to produce design and construction documents.
- Practical experience applying an in-depth knowledge of building technologies and materials.
- LEED Accreditation preferred or required within 6 months of hire.
