Scottsboro Police Facility
A former city hall finds new life as a contemporary justice center with police station, city court, jail, and 911 call center
Stripped to the studs, the front of this 50 year old former city hall was transformed into a sleek, contemporary façade, with expansive glazing and a monumental entrance that forms a spacious atrium for the city’s Police Department, while the side entry for the City Court features a covered porch with concrete seating. Thermal performance of the remaining walls was improved to meet current standards, and parapet walls were added to conceal rooftop equipment. The interior of the 13,000sf building was gutted to accommodate the new plan layout and remodeled with high quality wall and floor finishes as well as custom millwork. The new 3,000sf, 40-bed City Jail added on the west side of the facility incorporates a modular steel partition system, secure skylights, electronic supervision, and security control systems.

Asbestos abatement and total gutting of the interior with only the structure remaining were required to accommodate the entirely new plan layout.
