Sheraton – Downtown Birmingham

Downtown Birmingham, a vibrant blend of industrial heritage and contemporary innovation, is home to the Sheraton Hotel. Strategically located in the heart of Uptown, this hotel caters to both business and conference travelers. However, despite its prime location, the hotel and its lobby had become outdated and no longer aligned with the Sheraton brand standards.

Drawing inspiration from the city’s industrial roots, the design team embraced the raw beauty of Birmingham’s past. The palette, a symphony of iron, carbon, and limestone, reflects the city’s steel-forged soul. Honoring the city’s legacy, the lobby now exudes a refined, warm aesthetic, a testament to the enduring power of honest materials.

The renovation prioritized both durability and aesthetics. Finishes, furnishings, and fabrics were carefully selected to withstand the demands of frequent travel while elevating the interior to appeal to discerning business travelers. Tile flooring, replicating hardwood parquet, provides a sophisticated look while enduring high traffic. A cafe breakfast bar seamlessly transitions into a cocktail bar, enhancing versatility. A quartz backlit bar, resembling marble, adds a touch of sophistication. The once-overwhelming lobby is now transformed into distinct areas for work and social interaction. Accent lighting visually raises the low ceiling, creating a more spacious feel. Previously imposing columns were stripped down and clad in light-painted tambour wood with decorative sconces, making them visually lighter and less dominant. Architectural glass wall systems, mimicking custom blackened steel windows, create stylish and functional meeting rooms.

Once a forgotten corner of the city, it now stands as a testament to the transformative power of design, and a vibrant reflection of Birmingham’s evolving identity, and a truly inspiring guest experience.
