UAB Highlands 3rd Floor Renovation | Department of Family & Community Medicine New Clinic
The first phase of a comprehensive 3rd floor renovation at UAB Highlands Hospital created a new home for the university’s Department of Family & Community Medicine
The 3rd floor of UAB Highlands Hospital was demolished and 20,000sf renovated to create a new outpatient clinic for the relocated UAB Department of Family & Community Medicine, formerly on the hospital’s 4th floor. The new clinic incorporates 25 exam rooms, a therapy room, two x-ray rooms, and an expanded waiting room in response to an increase in patients, clinical providers, and staff. It provides additional space for the department’s clinical programs including practice-based research in chronic disease prevention and management, nutrition and mental health services, women’s health, and partnerships with the YMCA of Greater Birmingham and the Alabama Genomic Health Initiatives. The clinic will serve as a training ground for the next generation of healthcare providers. The demolition and new clinic comprise the first phase of a comprehensive 3rd floor renovation.
