Bakers Row
Transforming an abandoned bakery into contemporary commercial office space
Closed for many years, the 29,000sf former Merita Bakery was renovated and reconfigured to accommodate tenant expectations for contemporary office environments. The high ceilings, beams, and ductwork of the former factory remain exposed, taking advantage of the original building’s expansive clerestory skylight windows which flood the space with natural light. Polished concrete floors and crisp white finishes add to the contemporary industrial ambience. Bakers Row has become the home for both project developer Corporate Realty and KPS Group, whose office space was developed to meet LEED Certification. A metal building to the rear of the bakery was turned into a covered parking area. New industrial windows, paint, signage, streetscaping, and landscaping anchor the building to the Parkside redevelopment district and adjacent Railroad Park.
